Soumita Bhattacharya is a Visual Storyteller currently based between New York City, Seattle and Mumbai. She is interested in exploring themes of identity and occupation trends in immigrant populations in the United States.
Before she moved to the US, her work in India revolved around documenting time-honored traditions in traditions and dance forms. She graduated from the International Centre of Photography from the One year certificate program in Documentary Photography and Photojournalism in 2015.
She continues to work at ICP, assisting Elizabeth Kilroy the chair of the New Media Narratives program and has played an instrumental role in organizing the first ever hackathon (#icphackthephoto) at ICP in May 2016. #hackthephoto was a weekend interdisciplinary opportunity for photographers, filmmakers, developers, designers, makers, journalists and visual artists to come together and collaborate on the future of storytelling.
